Child/Teen ADHD Evaluations
Collaborative, family centered assessment services in-person and via telehealth throughout California.
Your child may have Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) if they have trouble paying attention and/or have trouble controlling their behavior and emotions.
How do I know if my child needs an ADHD evaluation? An ADHD evaluation is recommended if your child is struggling at home, school, and/or in other daily activities. Children who are depressed, anxious, or have experienced trauma can also exhibit symptoms that look like ADHD. A comprehensive evaluation will help you to understand whether these symptoms are the result of ADHD, or another mental health condition. An evaluation will provide you with a roadmap of how best to support your child moving forward regardless of their diagnosis.
If you are concerned about your child’s inattention and/or hyperactivity, psychological testing can provide you with answers. Some common questions parents ask me:
Is my child’s behavior normal for their age?
Why can’t my child sit still?
How can I support my child at school?
Why is my child having a hard time managing their emotions?
What treatment(s) should we seek out?
What can I do to improve my child’s behavior?
How can I get my child to listen to me?
I always provide children and teenagers the opportunities to ask their own questions. Some common questions children ask me are:
Am I smart?
Why do things seem harder for me than my friends?
Why do I keep getting in trouble at school?
Why can’t I focus?
Why do I get angry so easily?
How can I get along better with my family?
What About the Girls?
Girls with ADHD are often underdiagnosed or misdiagnosed because their symptoms differ from those commonly seen in boys. Girls frequently present with inattentive symptoms-such as daydreaming, disorganization, and difficulty focusing- that may be overlooked or attributed to other causes. Girls with ADHD can often be very compliant or fly under the radar at school and then fall apart at the end of the day at home, where they feel safest. I specialize in assessing for ADHD in girls, using a compassionate, neuro-affirming approach.
Fees: Testing is customized based on the questions you’d like answered by testing, therefore the testing fee will be determined once we define the scope of testing. I offer a sliding scale based on income, if needed. I do not take insurance, however I will provide a copy of your paid invoice for you to use to get reimbursement from your insurance company.
Your Right to a Good Faith Estimate: You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees. Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
